Can I remove this wall?

“Can we remove this wall?” It’s the question everyone, without fail, always asks.

Although any wall can be removed, the level of difficulty and therefor time, ranges from simple demo and patching of drywall to installing and securing a steel I-Beam into your roof.

But here’s the thing, in all the wall removals we’ve done, we’ve never had any customer regret there decision to remove a wall. Removing a wall can bring in more natural light, connect your living and kitchen spaces together and improve your home’s resale value.

So, the real question isn’t “Can we remove this wall?” but “How much will it cost to remove this wall?”

If you don’t want to go for the whole wall removal option, a cased opening is an economical option that will get you the added light and openness you’re looking for and also keeping you within budget.

Again, a less expensive option than a whole wall removal is leaving a header. This leaves a supportive beam running across the ceiling where the wall was and then braced on the sides.

For a wall removal of a non load bearing wall with nothing inside you’re left with the effortless  look as if it was never there. These jobs can be done quickly, within budget and leave you wondering how you ever lived in you’r home with the said wall there !

The removal of a load bearing wall will be can be expensive as it is far more labor intensive. While the non load bearing wall is just demo and patch, this type of wall needs the demo, installing temporary braces and the installation of beams in your roof to transfer the load of what the wall was holding up. When a “beam” is required we always consult an engineer to confirm the type of beam that is needed and ensure all installation meets construction codes, guaranteeing the integrity of your home.
